200 Science Riddles (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth Science)

Science riddles make formulas and facts feel much less like homework. I use these when a lesson needs a spark, or when someone claims physics is boring and clearly requires a gentle intervention.

How to Use These Science Riddles

Read each clue aloud, allow one thoughtful guess, and reveal the answer only after the solver explains the reasoning. For younger students, give the section name as a hint and accept the everyday term when it matches the scientific answer.

The questions grow more specific within each section, but none requires laboratory equipment. I would still wear safety goggles if snacks are involved, because grape juice has a remarkable ability to locate white shirts.

A Better Science Riddle Challenge

Instead of awarding a point for the answer alone, ask the solver to identify the decisive clue. That catches lucky guesses and turns each question into a quick lesson without making the game feel like a test.

For teams, mix five riddles from every section and require one written answer per group. I like this format because the quiet student who knows the difference between magma and lava finally gets the dramatic victory moment.
